Baby Eczema
I have never heard of eczema until my baby girl had it a few months after she gave birth. Perhaps I've seen the red patches already in other babies but I simply called it rashes. When I pointed out the red patches on my baby's face and folds to her pediatrician, he informed me that she had baby eczema. Since we're in the wonderful world of technology, I immediately googled eczema.
Here's what I got from the internet about eczema...
Here's what I got from the internet about eczema...
- it's also called atopic dermatitis
- it's not contagious
- it's a rash that looks dry, scaly and can have tiny red bumps
- in severe cases, it can blister, ooze and get infected
- babies who have asthma and allergy in the family are most likely prone to eczema
- babies who have eczema should always have moisturized skin
- fragrance-free and mild skin care products should be used on babies with eczema
- even laundry detergents used on clothes and sheets should be mild
- food allergy can trigger eczema
- some babies outgrow it, some babies don't
My daughter's pedia prescribed a topical steroid to heal the rashes. He instructed us to make sure to keep my baby's skin moisturized all the time. And after almost a year of religiously moisturizing my baby's skin, I think the eczema has been controlled. I found the perfect moisturizer for her - Cetaphil Cream.
Like most "eczema baby" moms, I pray that my baby grows up to be happy, healthy and eczema-free.
