Super Duper H

We finally found our Asian store. Make that Asian "SUPERMARKET".
After days of visiting tiny, tiny Filipino stores, someone recommended that we go to Super H Mart. So we did. And, my, did they have almost everything every Asian would need for cooking. For once, most of the grocery shoppers were dark-haired! You won't believe how refreshing it was for me to be amongst our kind (well, not really but puwede na rin).

The usual supermarkets here in Northern Illinois offer food products that are expensive at a per pound rate. Super H sells fresh produce at half the regular grocery price. The quality of fresh produce are even better. What's more is that they sell fish that we can find in the Philippines. Tilapia, Bangus, Pampano. I haven't seen these in Jewel Osco - the Albertson's of Illinois. Well, they sell Tilapia but already in fillets and far more expensive.

They say that seafood is more pricey here in Illinois because it's far from the sea. I wonder, though, why Super H can sell it at a reasonable price.

We were able to cook Kare-Kare with the oxtail and Mama Sita's Mix that we bought in Super H. I'm excited to go back and buy ingredients for Mongo! :)
