Bum...bum...bum...bum!
My brother-in-law went back to San Diego yesterday. We brought him to Chicago Midway Airport, south of downtown Chicago. Traffic was so bad. It took us two hours from our place to arrive at the airport. We left at 4pm and arrived at 6pm. BIL's flight was at 7:22pm so we were able to bring him there on time. He flew back to San Diego via Southwest airlines which had online check-in so it was hassle-free.
When we were about 5 minutes away from the airport, at the stoplight, I was a bit stunned at the number of homeless people begging for money. I knew that there would be bums around the city but I never thought that they could be all in one area at the same. There were about 5 or seven, able-bodied men who had paper cups in their hands going from one car to another asking for money. These men looked like construction workers ha so I was thinking - can't you get a job as a gardener or something? BIL said that most of these guys were just lazy. They know that the government can still take care of them via the homeless shelters. The shelters can feed them 3 times a day so why work? Hmm....maybe Donald Trump or Paris Hilton's can provide jobs for these people.
The homeless people here in the US even have organizations where they can get free clothing! Talk about spoiling your citizens! Our beggars in the Philippines have tattered shirts and super thin slippers (oh! we call them flip flops now. hehe). Aside from the holes in their clothes, homeless Filipinos are reed thin too which makes them more credible beggars.
I wonder if there are beggar syndicates here too?
