Don't Judge The Book By It's Cover

If you've been following my blog, you may know that I have certain qualifications when hiring household help, specifically in getting a yaya (nanny). I've always wanted a pleasant-looking yaya. Not necessarily eye candy but I've always wanted one who is a bit fair and who looks clean.

I did get my wish when I gave birth. Yaya No. 1 was good with her job and, not only did she look clean, she made everything clean too. However, she didn't want to wear a uniform and there were times when she was even dressed better than I was. Hehe! Nevertheless, I was happy with her and was sad to let go of her when we went to the States. She's now with my brother's family, taking care of my niece. At least my niece is in good hands.

We've had three yayas since we arrived. The first two fit the "clean" requirement but, boy, they were something else. I'm not being mean when I say that their IQ were below average - it's a fact.

Anyway, our current yaya does not fit any of the physical qualifications that I've set. Her complexion is quite dark and, well, let's just say she doesn't look like my ideal yaya. However, she is proof that we should not judge the book by it's cover. She's the best yaya yet.

First of all our daughter likes her because she's a great playmate; unlike the other two who would only follow her around like bodyguards; zombies, my brother-in-law would say. More importantly, she's patient and she has experience in taking care of kids - my daughter is her 3rd alaga (ward). Aside from that, she follows instructions and, if she's not sure, she asks.

Of course, no one is perfect. She has her negative points too but I'm not going to dwell on them. As long as our kid's safe, well-fed, bathed and happy too. Besides, I'm present most of the time so yaya has little room for kalokohan.
